My name is Becca Jean. I am 29 years old, and I was diagnosed with Stage 2 Invasive Ductal Carcinoma (triple positive) on August 30, 2017.
While cancer does not define me, it is now a big part of my life and I can’t help but think that I got diagnosed at a time that I really needed to make a difference, so here I am.
Before diagnosis, I was a concert goer, traveler, crafter, wife, dog mom, sister, daughter, aunt, college student, and animal advocate living a normal life in Austin, TX. Like anyone in their late 20s, I was busy LIVING and making memories to carry me into the next decade of my life.
Why “the screaming mimi”? When I was a child, I held on to a security blanket that Chuck Norris himself could not pry from my hands. It was actually an old cloth diaper that I formed a strong bond with and carried me with everywhere, although not as gracefully as Charlie Brown. This blanket, I called my “mimi” (not too sure where I got that from), and I would run around the house screaming while my mother was on the phone. It was then that I was dubbed “The Screaming Mimi”.
